1938 - 2013

For more than 75 years, Heidelberg has been delivering the finest products in the world to retailers – your local grocers, convenience stores corner bars, restaurants and more. We started out as “one man, one truck” when founder Albert Vontz decided to drive 60 miles every day from Covington, Kentucky to Dayton, Ohio to sell beer to local retailers. The beer was Student Prince and Heirloom, produced by Heidelberg Brewing Co. of Covington.

When the brewery closed in 1946, we kept the name since it was too expensive to make new letterhead and change the name on the trucks! Throughout our company's history, and certainly during the last few decades, Heidelberg has grown several ways: (1) More retailers to serve in growing Ohio and Kentucky markets, (2) brand acquisitions and growth within existing brands, (3) new supplier partners, and (4) acquisitions of (often very) similar family-owned distributor businesses.

Because we recognize the goodwill and commitments of those who came before us, we have retained certain company names and "added" them to the Heidelberg Family of Companies over the years.

Today, we are still family-owned and operated. The Miller and Vontz families – both third and fourth generations – are actively involved in the leadership and daily operations of the company.
